Sunset Coffins make beautiful unique coffins because they are both different to any existing coffin and superior to many. They are made from board which is 100% recycled newsprint, using biodegradable pigments and binders. All offcuts go back for further recycling. This gives the coffin its unique tactile feel, but it needs to be seen and touched to be fully appreciated. Because the board is paper based it can be decorated by family and friends to add that personal touch.
They are available in a range of eight different colours to suit personal taste. There are no plastics or metals used in its construction thereby reducing any potential environmental issues.
This product including all the packaging and marketing materials are biodegradable and wherever possible are from recycled material. As an alternative to the plastics or metals normally used for handles, we use jute rope - a natural plant material produced with little need for fertilisers or pesticides. This creates a strong handle that is also functional and attractive.
A lot of research and development has gone into producing a sturdy finished article that is easy to use from the Funeral Director's point of view as well as being aesthetically pleasing for the family. Because our product is sourced and made locally, it has a low environmental impact.
By choosing this coffin you help to reduce potential harmful ground and air emissions, thereby leaving a positive legacy for future generations.
Our vision is to offer a positive choice that is "Green" as well as being practical. For more information please see the Sunset Coffins website
Last Lullaby
Sunset coffins are now working together with Last Lullaby to create 100% recycled biodegradable and personalised small coffins for children. ![]()
As Last Lullaby explain ''I cannot put right what surely must be one of the most terrible injustices a parent can ever experience – but I can attempt to make a difference – in offering a sensitive and heartfelt alternative to the anonymity of the small, plain white box that is offered to you to transport your precious little person on their final journey in this world; and I can do this as beautifully as you and your baby deserve…
By listening to your wishes and the dreams you had for your child, and by painting the images and maybe the words that go some way to convey the love you feel, I can help you bear witness to the unique identity of this person who will never be able to show it to the world.
I feel strongly that the anonymity inflicted on babies who die makes it harder for parents to fully engage in the grieving process.'' ![]()
The materials used in creating these exquisite little coffins are all biodegradable. The coffins are made by Sunset Coffins out of 100% recycled newsprint, using biodegradable pigments and binders, and they have a wonderfully soft suede-like feel.
Last Lullaby approached Steve Ancrum at Sunset Coffins to supply the coffins as his vision for offering a ‘green’ solution to the funeral process aligns with theirs, and they feel the unique tactile quality of the construction board is perfect for what they want to be able to offer to their clients.
The shape and dimensions of these little coffins have been designed specifically so that there is plenty of room for blankets and soft toys. These examples Lily, Oliver and Pansy are painted on ‘wheat’ which is one of 8 colours available. If you would like to start with a white or cream coffin for your child, I can paint it first. However, the tactile quality which is so attractive will be lost. Please go to http://www.sunsetcoffins.co.uk to see the range of colours. More details to be found on http://www.lastlullaby.co.uk/
The coffins come lined with unbleached calico, trimmed with coloured ribbon of your choice, and a little matching pillow.
