One of the world's leading international equine charities |
|
Our mission is to protect horses from abuse and alleviate their suffering through rehabilitating, campaigning and educating worldwide. Our political campaigners, international training teams, UK Field Officers and Rehabilitation Centres are all working towards our vision of a world where the horse is used but never abused.
We are a caring but pragmatic organisation, which encourages the use, not the abuse of the horse, recognising that the only hope for the future of this unique animal in the western world is in the pleasure it can give in both sport and leisure. The ILPH has grown to become the world's leading international equine welfare charity. The ILPH relies totally on the support of the general public to continue its work. In the United Kingdom the ILPH runs 4 Recovery and Rehabilitation Centres, with around 300 horses in our care at any one time.

Established in 1984 working to save horses, ponies, donkeys and mules whose future would otherwise be bleak. |
|
Every year we provide a safe, secure home for rescued animals who, through no fault of their own, have fallen upon difficult times and are in great need of our help and care. Many suffer as the result of ignorance but others are the victims of deliberate neglect or cruelty. Whatever their story, we do everything within our power to help them. The Charity’s base, which is in Norfolk, includes our specialist veterinary team and equine hospital, welfare team, equine reception, rehabilitation and rehoming teams and administration. We currently have Visitor Centres in Norfolk, Suffolk and Warwickshire and are a nationwide organisation.

SWEP was formed due to the demand for a locally based society to follow up concerns about equine welfare, whether moorland, privately owned or abandoned. |
|
Enquiries and requests for help are received from members of the public and from other organisations. We have helped many horses and ponies and with your help will continue to do so.
SWEP is active in Devon and Cornwall and works in partnership with other organisations such as the Devon & Cornwall Constabulary (including Horsewatch), ILPH, DEFRA, local Commoners Associations, Dartmoor National Park as well as other animal welfare groups. We have worked for a number of years on Dartmoor, and more recently, on Bodmin Moor.
Funding
SWEP has a membership of approximately 200, with a team of volunteers caring for rescued equines and organising fund raising activities such as events.
We welcome donations from the public and businesses
