Modern building practices have considerable impact upon the environment.  The multi-billion pound construction industry is driven by efficiency and economics, the degradation of our planet has, as in so many things, taken a back seat.  Buildings affect the environment in many ways ranging from energy and water consumption to the use of natural resources.  The construction industry uses in the region of 6 tonnes of material per person every year,  accounts for around 10% of national energy consumption, and about a fifth of waste products in the UK.   It is estimated that as many as 120,000 extra homes are needed each year in the UK, so the damage to environment caused by house building is ever increasing.

Whether embarking upon a self build, working with builders, or renovating an existing property, the use of green building materials can at least minimise the environmental impact of building / renovating your home. Healthy homes can play a part in our overall health.
