A Closer Look at Kinesiology
Kinesiology asks the body what it wants - by using simple muscle tests, a kinesiologist monitors the energy fields of the body and locates areas of imbalance. It assesses these imbalances on a structural, chemical and emotional level.
The Kinesiology Federation give the following definition:
'Kinesiology, literally the study of body movement, is a holistic approach to balancing the movement and interaction of a person's energy systems. Gentle assessment of muscle response monitors those areas where blocks and imbalances are impairing physical, emotional or energetic well -being. The same method can identify factors that may be contributing to such imbalances. The body's natural healing responses are stimulated by attention to reflex and acupressure points, and by use of specific body movements and nutritional support. These can lead to increased physical and mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.'
Muscle testing was first described in 1932 by Dr. Robert Lovett, a Boston Orthopaedic surgeon, this was developed by American physiotherapists Henry and Florence Kendall and in 1964 a chiropractor from Detroit, and Dr. George Goodheart took the work further and later became known as "the founding father of Applied Kinesiology”.
Kinesiology is particularly useful in cases of food allergies and sensitivities, nutritional imbalance, emotional, mental and physical stress. A session will last an hour or more and in many cases only one or two treatments are needed. Specific symptoms will be noted in a case history, but fundamentally it is a holistic treatment. At the end of the session, recommendations will be made as to how to correct the imbalances found, follow up sessions will assess the effectiveness of the corrections.
