Cygnus Books Launch Book Circles

We’re asking for volunteers to start Cygnus Book Circles all over the country. This is something you may want to do, to form a group of supportive, like-minded friends in your area

We received this letter from Joy Pugsley, a Cygnus reader from Devon:

‘For many months I have been thinking of starting a regular Book Circle, similar to the one you run yourselves, and on several occasions thought of writing to you for advice on how I might start this up. I keep wondering whether you could offer printed guidelines on how to run such a Circle, encouraging as many circles as possible to start up, and using Cygnus books of course.

Then just a few days ago, whilst meditating, a thought came into my head that wouldn’t it be fantastic if all these Circles were all reading and discussing the same books as you are in your Circle, at the same time! Somehow, it just seemed that it would bring us all together even more, as one big family.’

As you can imagine, we were very taken with that idea – it’s not the first time it’s been suggested, but it is the first time we have felt ready and able to act on it.

So... if you would like to start a Cygnus Book Circle, please contact Emma or Sarah at our shop on 01570 422005 or cygnusbookshop@yahoo.co.uk and they will add you to a special list of ‘Book Circle Coordinators’.

They will also send you a pack containing guidelines, and some posters so that you can advertise for members in local shops.

By the time our April issue goes to press (12th March), we hope to have quite a list of Book Circle Coordinators, and we will advertise the dates of your meetings and a contact phone number in The Cygnus Review.

The book we recommend for your first meeting is The Way of the White Clouds by Lama Anagarika Govinda.
