So much going on...
The clothes shop has settled happily into its historic building in the centre of Hope. Formerly a pub (The Durham Ox) and a bank, it's now an eco fashion emporium. Menswear has its own room, and we've recently received some wonderful fair trade organic cotton men's shirts from British company Quail who design and manufacture in the UK. Women aren't left out as we have some pretty, 1940s inspired blouses in a spotty print and we're going to order a few more items from Shauna at Quail in the next few days. Currently these items are only available in the shops but should be on our website soon.
Our home shop around the corner is steadily building a loyal following and we're constantly sourcing exciting new products, many of which are making it onto the web. Our next step is to commission more local products and we're working with a member of our staff, Rosie Rumble, to get some fleeces processed into yarn and throws. This process will take a while but we're hoping that these items will be available by Christmas. Our new product
It's taken a lot of to and froing but we've finally taken delivery of our first Eco Eco product. We collaborated with UK designer Lucie Summers to create a double sided print eco gift wrap, printed with vegetable based inks on recycled/FSC paper by a company that uses renewable energy. There are two colourways: seafoam/chartreuse and fire engine red/powder pink and it's a hefty 130 gsm in weight - nice and crisp and useful for all sorts of things as well as wrapping gifts.
I've blogged about it here: http://ecoecoltd.blogspot.com/2009/06/ta-daaaa.html
Available to buy on our website HERE
Hopefully this will be the first product of many.
We're already negotiating to have the same totem pattern printed on fair trade organic cotton for autumn/winter. This will be made into items by ourselves and also sold by the metre both in our home shop and online. We're even thinking about wallpaper.
New products online
We are constantly adding more new products to the website so it's always worth taking a turn around it. Here are a few highlights to favourite products:
The amazing bird ball peanut feeder. Art and functionality in one neat globe
Innovative and non-toxic home fragrance: all natural ingredients are used to create fragrant leaves impregnated with perfume that scent a room for four weeks and that can be composted afterwards. A lovely present
We've been trying to find something to replace those sponge things that are so useful when washing up. Well we found these, and they're fantastic. Not only that but they last up to a year and yes, you can compost them afterwards. Luffa washing up scourers
We said earlier that our new gift wrap was our first product, but perhaps that's not quite true. These hand made soap dishes were created at our suggestion and are made of local wood offcuts: We also have wooden spatulas from the same maker
And in case you are thinking that we've forgotten all about our first love, eco clothing, here are a few links to new women's products (sorry chaps and children - new products to come for you soon)
Pretty and practical linen knit cardigan
Organic cotton strappy dress
A useful organic hemp skirt available in five colours
Lastly, some fantastically comfy socks
