The Romans recognised the “satisfaction of the senses” that gardening provides. Modern gardening has become highly concerned with control and we have created a great deal of conflict through the use of aggressive cultivation and chemicals. There is a delicate balance in nature, the soil, plants, organisms, living creatures and weather are all inter-related, the introduction of toxic weed killers, fertilisers and other chemicals upsets this balance and exposes us to some very dangerous substances.
Gardening naturally, gives the opportunity to take at least some responsibility for the preservation of the planet, natural and or, organic gardeners work with nature rather than against it. A recreational gardener is not bound to any legal organic standards, so has flexibility in the application of organic methods. But whether growing vegetables, flowerbeds, herbs or lawns, a natural gardener shows respect for the relationship they have with nature.
